Integrated pest management of German cockroaches
German Cockroaches are one of the most challenging urban pests. Understanding some aspects of their life cycle and behaviour, and knowing best practice techniques will help you to achieve better results when treating them.
1 - German Cockroach nymphs are more likely to survive than other species, as the female carries the ootheca throughout the incubation, protecting it until hatching.
2 - This species has the highest number of offspring (from 30 to 40 per brood), with a short incubation period until hatching. From egg to adult takes, on average, 103 days (at 25˚C).
3 - The nymphs go through 6 to 7 instars before they reach the adult form. The control challenge at this stage is due to the nymph's small size and low mobility in the environment.
4 - They remain very close to each other. In their excreta, there is an aggregation pheromone that increases the level of population grouping.
Cleaning
Make sure the environment is cleaned regularly, taking care in the places where there is greater accumulation of fat, such as sinks, stoves, countertops, electronic equipment, and hoods.
Inspection
Pay attention to any goods received. Cockroaches can be randomly found amongst packaging and food from outside suppliers.
Removal of Food Sources
It is important to remove food debris regularly from surfaces, cover food, clean cans and bottles before disposal and empty rubbish bins daily.
Maintenance
Correct maintenance of cracks and crevices that serve as shelters to cockroaches in walls, baseboards and sinks. It is also important to repair any damaged electrical installations.
Control with gel
Apply ADVION Evolution Cockroach Gel in cracks and crevices where infestation is suspected. The control that a gel bait provides can help you to cover all points of activity that are discovered by an inspection. Correct bait placement allows the cockroaches to ingest the product. The secondary and tertiary transfer effect will extend the action of the product to other adults and nymphs.
Non-Repellent Spraying
Spraying with non-repellent products can help control high infestation without dispersing cockroaches in the environment.
Apply to corners, crevices, and infestation points.
Residual Spraying
The application of DEMAND 100CS Insecticide forms a perimeter chemical barrier, with residual effect, to maintain the environment for a prolonged time, reducing the number of reapplications and reducing the operational cost of the treatment.
